With campaigning expected to reach fever pitch ahead of Wednesday’s poll, parties will be going all out to persuade voters still sitting on the fence that they are the most deserving of their cross.
Citizen Surveys’ Daniel Moody says it’s unusual to have so many undecided voters so close to voting day.
“They might be quite apathetic towards voting and the political processes in South Africa and say I don’t know because they don’t care or because they don’t know.”
Moody says while the high number could reflect unhappiness with the African National Congress (ANC), it also suggests that opposition parties such as the Democratic Alliance and the Economic Freedom Fighters have so far not been able to persuade voters that they’re a realistic alternative.
