NATIONAL NEWS - The Wellington Magistrates Court has heard the main accused in the murder of acclaimed author Winnie Rust, first lied about his whereabouts on the day of the fatal attack, when questioned by police.

Nigel and Johannes Plaatjies are formally applying for bail today.

They’re alleged to have murdered Rust in her home last month.

Investigating officer Cornelius de Lange told a fully-packed court that the slain author and her husband financially supported accused number one, Nigel, since Grade 7.

They paid for his schooling as well as athletics gatherings the 18-year-old attended.
