Her mother, Catherine Verwey, who was relieved at finding her daughter, told the Advertiser that her child was found in a very bad state.
“She was drugged and she had bruises, cuts, marks and a swollen face, which clearly indicates that she has been assaulted,” said Verwey.
Verwey said Margaretha escaped from that room through the window and ran to the nearest property.
“After knocking at the gate without finding help, she ran and hid in the veld nearby, where she was found and the police were called,” she said.
