Courtney Pieters’ body was found over the weekend about a kilometre away from her Elsies River home after she was reported missing late last week.
Social development MEC Albert Fritz said: “The Western Cape government condemns in the strongest possible terms the latest murder of Courtney Pieters. We are absolutely happy about the arrest of the suspect and will allow the judicial system to take its course.”
The child’s family home has been declared a crime scene.
Police says a 40-year-old man was apprehended in Saturn Close in Elsies River.
