Mineworker dies in tramming accident

NATIONAL NEWS - A mineworker has died in a tramming accident at the South Deep Gold Mine on Thursday.

Operations have been suspended at the mine pending a full risk assessment.

Mine management says they've notified the Mineral Resources Department and an in-loco inspection is due to take place on Thursday afternoon.

Spokesperson Sven Lunsche says: "We immediately stopped all tramming related work at the mine. We’re having an in-loco inspection later on today."

Earlier this year, Mineral Resources Minister Mosebenzi Zwane released last year’s statistics on health and safety in the mining sector.
