NATIONAL NEWS - An 18-year-old boy was executed after he was accused of taking photographs of a mob in search of suspects in Amaoti, KZN, on Sunday.
According to an article published by The Witness, Prem Balram, spokesperson for Reaction Unit South Africa (Rusa), says at least 80 men armed with pangas, golf clubs, traditional weapons and firearms were searching for suspects allegedly responsible for a spate of murders and robberies in the area.
“Rusa received a call for medical assistance for an 18-year-old boy who had been shot, by individuals in the mob. Reaction officers and Rusa paramedics were immediately dispatched and arrived on scene at approximately 11:59.”
Balram says that the teenager’s body was found in his yard.
“He had been shot in the body and head. He showed no signs of life and was declared deceased. His [older] brother is also believed to have been shot and hacked with a panga. He fled and cannot be located,” he says.
Balram adds that the teenager’s family informed the reaction officers that the siblings were sitting in the yard when the mob was passing.
The group accused the brothers of taking pictures of them, began assaulting them and shot dead the teenager, says Balram.
