The National Sea Rescue Institute says according to eye-witness reports, 2 men, both from East London, were swept off rocks at Cove Rock at around 5pm.
NSRI spokesperson, Craig Lambinon says the man was swept out to sea by waves and his 28 year old son-in-law tried to rescue him by clambering down the rocks, but he too was swept out to sea.
He says fellow anglers that were there at the time managed to rescue the 28 year old, and raised the alarm, but the older man had been swept further out to sea before disappearing under the water.
