NATIONAL NEWS - The lives of six puppies were inadvertently saved when their pregnant mother was picked up by a good Samaritan in Silverton, Pretoria on Sunday evening.
The mixed breed dog, now named Buttercup, had been dumped on the side the road, neglected and with the onset of labour.
She was collected by Paws R Us in Midrand on Monday and an emergency C-section was performed to deliver her six puppies. According to Tanya Nel, head of operations and adoptions at Paws R Us, Buttercup and her puppies were in foster care and the puppies will be available for adoption in about a month and a half.
“She was neglected and underweight when we received her, implying that she definitely did not come from a loving home,” Nel said.
