Ntando Easter Khakudi’s body was discovered by a passer-by in SNS on Sunday afternoon.
Her hands and legs were tied and she appeared to have been strangled, said Gauteng police spokesperson Lt-Col Lungelo Dlamini.
“It is alleged that the little girl was raped but we will wait for the post-mortem result to confirm that.”
Dlamini said a murder docket had been opened.
The victim’s aunt, Sarah Mthambo (48), said the little girl was last seen playing with her friends in Mthunzini Park in SNS on Saturday morning.
She was nowhere to be found later in the day. Family continued their search the next morning.
