MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A free workshop on photography was held for young people in Mossel Bay in celebration of Human Rights Day.
Reflekt Division partnered with the IOceans Trust to host the event, aimed at empowering the youth with photography skills, at the Reflekt studio and training facility in Mossel Bay.
The event was attended by 50 youth from the IOceans Trust, Skipper Foundation, Ikhaya youth community group, Hillcrest Secondary school “Interact” group, Bayethe Multisport Academy as well as by attendees from as far as George and Oudtshoorn.
“Learn More About Photography and See Life Through a New Lens” was a two-hour workshop facilitated by Danie Greyling from Reflekt Division.
He is an experienced photographer and mentor, who guided the participants through key photography techniques.
Danie introduced attendees to the essentials of capturing the perfect photograph, whether using a smartphone or a traditional camera.
The focus on nature was enhanced by the creative use of shells and sand, which added texture to the photographs.
“We wanted to give the youth an opportunity to explore nature while refining their photography skills,” said Danie.
“By incorporating elements of the natural environment, we created a tangible connection that helped the participants see their world through a new lens.”
Reflekt Division and IOceans Trust worked together to facilitate the event, with the overall mission of skills development and community engagement.
The event concluded with career insights by Emmanuel Mirenzhenie, a police officer, who emphasised how photography is used in various professional fields, including law enforcement and marine conservation.
Local marine guides Ilizna du Plessis, Recardo Klein and Garth Gabriels shared valuable water conservation tips, reinforcing Reflekt Division and IOceans Trust’s ongoing commitment to promoting environmental awareness, alongside skills development.
