MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay residents may have questions regarding rubbish disposal.
The Mossel Bay Municipality has provided the following information.
Moloks
These are enclosed underground bins, usually in public spaces for community use.
Only household general waste can be deposited into the moloks. Other types of waste are not allowed as they may damage the moloks, which are expensive to service, therefore the community is urged to use them appropriately.
Don't drop off recycling material at the molok in the Great Brak River waste management yard. The municipality is looking at an area to accommodate the recycling at the yard.
Don't put recyclables out on your pavement on the day refuse is collected. The service provider will collect them. The municipality will advise the public once the area for the recycling is up and running.
Garden waste
Residents who dispose of garden waste in green bags at the Great Brak River or Louis Fourie waste disposal sites are expected to empty the bags at the site.
This means that during drop-off, residents must tear open the bags, throw the garden waste out and place the plastic bags in one of the skips at the site. Everybody is responsible for emptying their own green bag and is requested to cooperate with municipal staff when asked to do so on site.
The Mossel Bay Municipality’s popular hazardous waste open days will be hosted on 22 March at the Mossel Bay town hall and 23 March at the Great Brak River municipal offices.
Asbestos will also be accepted on these open days.
Members of the public are invited to contact the Waste Management Department, should they need any assistance. This service is offered by the municipality for free. Residents are urged to contact the municipality regarding asbestos removal, instead of dumping it in open spaces or fields, which is a criminal offence. For more information, call 044 606 5000.
