MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Toxicology reports have confirmed that a dog and two cats from the Bay View area in Hartenbos, Mossel Bay, have died from deliberate poisoning.
This is according to the Garden Route SPCA. Though the poisoning incidents occurred about four months ago, the society only recently received the toxicology report.
“The poison identified was malathion, an organophosphate pesticide commonly used in agricultural pest control, home gardens and insect control products,” said the SPCA.
“The loss of these animals has been devastating for their families. No pet deserves to suffer in this way.”
Though there is currently no evidence linking a suspect to the poisonings, the Garden Route SPCA said it would be working with the Da Gamaskop Police to open a case and continue investigating the matter.
“We appeal to anyone who may have information to come forward. Even the smallest piece of information could help bring answers to the families who have lost their beloved pets ... We will continue to pursue every lead available to us and will not stop seeking answers for the animals and families affected,” it said.
Anyone with information may contact the Garden Route SPCA on 044 878 1990 or the emergency number: 072 287 1761.
