MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Veteran local open water swimmers, Bronwyn Macdonald and her husband Steven, have started an open water swimming club.
Known as Santos Seals, the club is the first open water swimming club in Mossel Bay.
The social group consists of competent swimmers who wish to swim in or get exposure to open water, said Bronwyn.
The inspiration to begin an open water swimming club came from Santos Beach, "one of the finest open water swimming beaches in the world", she noted.
"With the Ironman having taken place in Mossel Bay, open water swimming is gaining popularity very quickly. Mossel Bay can and must use the opportunity to promote the venue and the activity."
Although Santos Beach is a prime open water swimming location, it will not be the only one. The group plans on taking on open water adventures, as the Garden Route is home to a number of beautiful open water swimming spots.
Bronwyn and Steven are no strangers to the water. Bronwyn told Mossel Bay Advertiser the pair have had the opportunity to swim in the oceans of many different countries.
Of course, swimming is often dependent on the weather. The goal, weather permitting, is for group participants to swim several times per week.
All open water swimming enthusiasts are invited to be part of the club. Swimming instruction is available from qualified coaches.
