MOSSEL BAY NEWS - An exciting concert will be held in Mossel Bay in June, when ArtSpace hosts The Chopin Project, consisting of an outstanding team of six prize-winning musicians.
The extraordinary pianist José Dias will partner with the Selene String Quartet and bassist Zanelle Britz.
The programme will feature Chopin’s Piano Concerto opuses 11 and 12 - composed when Chopin was, arguably, at his most extroverted and virtuosic.
Despite the incredible pianistic demands and originality, the audience may well be captured by the spellbinding lyricism and depth of feeling.
In this setting for the string quintet, the orchestral lines gain new power and directness, as each player contributes much more individually, in a stronger interweaving akin to the greatest chamber music.
This unique programme will be recorded later in the year and is set to be the first volume of Dias’ The Chopin Project, an ambitious project of recording Chopin’s complete works for piano in the coming years - a first for South African classical music.
The concert will take place at 19:00 on Thursday, 5 June, in the NG Klipkerk, next to the Dutch Reformed Church in Church Street, Mossel Bay.
Tickets are R180, or R150 if booked before 26 May. Book by contacting Abé Meintjes (083 268 3718).
