MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A Hartenbos family had a pleasant surprise on Thursday, 31 August, when a mystery benefactor paid half of their restaurant bill.
He also paid the bills of other patrons in the restaurant. In Hartenbos on holiday, the man frequented the restaurant a few times.
He also tipped waitrons generously. To one he gave R800 and to another, R1 000. Erika Erasmus said: "My husband took us out for a meal and half our bill was paid by a man sitting in the corner. He paid for others' drinks, but we did not really buy alcohol, so he paid half our food bill. To show our gratitude and 'pay it forward', we gave our waiter a R250 tip."
One of the managers of Piza e Vino restaurant, Ian Elliott, said: "There was a guy who came in regularly and sat in our cocktail bar, Il Mazzo. He was on holiday from Johannesburg. I heard later on in the evening on Thursday last week, when I was cashing up, that he had paid people's bills and tipped the waitrons huge amounts. This lifted people's spirits."
