MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay resident Annette Sophia Kiewiet celebrated her 99th birthday on Monday 2 February.
Her family and Mossel Bay’s Mayor Dirk Kotzé all attended the occasion.
Kiewiet was born in 1927 and grew up in Sorgfontein, near Friemersheim.
She would later meet her husband, Samuel, at a dance in Friemersheim where he was performing as a musician.
They married in 1945, and welcoming 13 children - seven daughters and six sons - throughout their marriage.
In 1963, the family relocated to Voorbaai, and in 1969, they settled in Mossel Bay, first in Ext 8 and later in Ext 13.
Sadly, four of her daughters and two of her sons have passed away. Her husband died in 1993.
Annette has primarily been a homemaker, devoted to caring for her family. Her hobbies include cooking, baking and gardening, and she has a passion for singing.
For many years, she sang in the choir of the Uniting Reformed Church in Mossel Bay and has been an active member of the church’s Women’s Fellowship.
Annette is also a grandmother to 33 grandchildren, 75 great-grandchildren and 17 great-great-grandchildren.
