MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A local man is expected to make his first court appearance in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court today on several fraud-related charges.
The suspect (58) was arrested by Da Gamaskop Police yesterday and spent the night in the police holding cells.
Allegations against the suspect include that he claimed to be a building contractor and developer in Mossel Bay.
One of his alleged victims, a 72-year-old pensioner from George, told Mossel Bay Advertiser that he paid R500 000 in 2021 as a deposit for a property in a proposed development in Aalwyndal.
The development never materialised and the victim says he never got his money back.
It is alleged that scores of victims, mostly pensioners, lost millions of rands.
The name of the suspect can only be released after his first court appearance.
