MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) is observed each year on 4 May, which is today (Monday).
On this date you are invited to remember the firefighters who have died while serving the community and dedicating their lives to protecting the safety of us all.
The local Mossel Bay Fire and Disaster Management members and By Grace Ambulance Service staffers took to the streets of Mossel Bay today to recall and show respect for their felllow firefighters across the world who died in the line of duty.
With traditional sounding of sirens at noon, they went down to the Point in Mossel Bay and back to their premises.
International Firefighters' Day is observed worldwide. It was instituted after a proposal was emailed out across the world on 4 January 1999 after the deaths of five firefighters in tragic circumstances in a bushfire in Australia.
