MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Sports Council (MBSC) and the Garden Route Casino Trust donated various sports equipment to 24 local sports clubs on Thursday 31 July.
The handover took place in the Bravo Lounge of the Garden Route Casino in Mossel Bay.
Those present at the event included the MBSC’s chairperson, Rustin Constance, Cllr Donovan Claasen and Alderman Niklaas Booysen, and the Garden Route Casino Trust’s GM, Willie de Beer.
Traditional sports clubs affiliated with the MBSC, such as rugby, netball, cricket and athletics were the recipients of the sports equipment, as well as bowling, boxing, dance, sailing and even dominoes clubs.
The receiving teams included the Barbarians Rugby Club, Marlins Lifesavers, Omgee Netball Rehab, Mossel Bay Arm Wrestling and Vista Bowls, among many others.
Through the MBSC and the Garden Route Casino Trust’s donations, the goal is to enable continuous participation in sports and attract athletes, both young and old.
Constance said the core function of the clubs should not only be winning medals and trophies, but increasing overall participation.
