MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Louis Stevens, of the well-known family who owns the Stevens Transport company in Mossel Bay, passed away on Saturday, 7 December.
Mossel Bay town councillor and Western Cape leader of Icosa political party, Dawid Kamfer, grew up in the family's home.
Dawid told the Mossel Bay Advertiser: "I lived with them from a young age." Dawid said he had felt part of the Stevens family.
Louis had worked for the Langeberg fruit processing factory in town.
Dawid described Louis as a determined person, who knew what he wanted. "But he was also a people's person. At that time he was often at work, at the factory, where he was a foreman."
Dawid was the bestman at Louis' wedding.
He noted that Louis' father, also named Louis, passed away last year in December, also on a Saturday.
"It is sad for me that I did not have the chance to say goodbye to Louis junior," Dawid said. "It is a hard blow."
Dawid said Louis junior had suffered from lung and kidney problems. He had been sick and was in hospital for a short spell before his death.
A family service is taking place tonight, 11 December.
A memorial service is taking place in the VGK hall on Thursday, 12 December and on Saturday, at 09:00, a funeral service will take place in the VGK Church.
This is located above Erika Primary School.
