MOSSEL BAY NEWS - For the first time in 16 years, a locomotive ran the tracks from Hartenbos through to Mossel Bay today, 19 March.
The locomotive belongs to Atlantic Rail, a family-run local business. According to Sean Ekström of Atlantic Rail, the locomotive Mossel Bay residents saw today is named Sylvia and was originally built in the 1930s.
The train was earmarked to be scrapped, but was beautifully restored and utilised in and around the Garden Route.
Sylvia went on a test run today, and was the first locomotive to chug down the track in 16 years, making the test run a historical moment for Mossel Bay.
Ekström said the test was to ensure everything is ready for its inaugural trip on 4 April. More information is available on their website: www.scrail.co.za.
