MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Elna van Staden of Mossel Bay landed herself a role on the television series, Die Eetkamer, which is broadcast on Via TV, and her episode will be screened next year.
There is a winner every week on this reality TV show on DStv's channel 147.
Elna (59) explains, "It's a lot like Come dine with me."
In her opinion, the food is not the type she would place before just any guest; it is unusual.
On Die Eetkamer, there is one "uninvited" guests and the other participants must guess which one of the guests this is.
There are always four guests on the show. Participants are given two facts about two of the guests and you have to guess which facts suits which guest.
Elna will be in episode three in the third season on 3 March next year.
Extra
For many years she has acted as an extra in productions and she has also helped to find extras for TV.
When she is not acting, she works as a pet sitter and a care giver.
She was working as a care giver for a stint in Pretoria when she flew to Cape Town and back to play her role in Die Eetkamer.
"It was great fun," Elna says.
"I started working as an extra in 1998. I also enjoy modelling and took part in the Mrs Gauteng pageant once. I've been in many soapies, both Afrikaans and English, such as Generations, Egoli and 7de Laan.
She has also appeared in an advert for Vanish, the clothing stain remover, and as an extra in the movies, Winnie Mandela and Mandela: The Long Walk to Freedom.
Originally from Pretoria, Elna moved to Mossel Bay in 2016.
She signed up with Gemini Model and Talent Agency last year.
Limelight
Elna says: "I love everything to do with modelling, acting, TV work and being in the limelight."
She appeared in Huisgenoot magazine in 2015 after she married Fred Brook, aged 74, the year before. Elna was 48 at the time of the marriage."
He had asked me to clean his house."
Fred had not thrown things away in years, so it was a huge mission to declutter the place.
"It took me seven months," Elna explains.
"He said if I clean the house, I must marry him and get his medical aid and pension. As soon as I was finished, I arranged our wedding, which took place three days later, under avocado trees at his house."
Fred passed away in December 2016.
Van Staden was delighted to be on 'Die Eetkamer'.
