GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - This year's koi show will be held at the Garden Route Mall Shopping Centre in George on Saturday, 24 March from 09:00 to 16:00 and on Sunday, 25 March from 09:00 to 12:00.
There should be in excess of 360 koi on display, ranging from 12cm to 90cm, and to be judged this year by two overseas ZNA locally-certified judges and four South African judges headed by our chief judge, Mike Harvey, who is ZNA-certified. ZNA stands for Zen Nippon Airinkai, which is the worldwide koi organisation.
The Southern Cape chapter is one of five koi chapters in South Africa that hold a koi show annually. Koi are judged in their size category and in their own particular varieties, the ultimate winner being the Supreme Grand Champion.
There are many factors taken into account when judging and this will be explained gladly to visitors, should they require any information, just by asking one of the koi helpers.
Koi have definitely gripped the imagination of many South Africans.
There are never two of the same, this being why they are so sought after.
We will also have koi and koi-related goods for sale during the show.
