MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Rotary Lantern March is taking place on 4 October.
The annual event was introduced by Nata Dreijer, an honorary Rotarian, who is of German descent and who was reminded of the joy and happiness this event brought to her as a child.
In Germany, a Lantern March is held at the beginning of autumn. Children, their parents, grandparents and friends and relatives, often accompanied by a band to provide music and momentum, purchase lanterns and then walk through towns.
Nata wanted South African children to enjoy this joy, but she also wanted to use the event to bring hope to marginalised, disadvantaged young children. Nata always buys the lanterns, originally from Germany.
The money raised by the event is used to support Rotary's projects which target young preschool-aged children.
Support this worthy cause by purchasing a lantern for R100 (battery included) and bring light, love, hope and cheer to a child.
The walk starts at Delfino's and visitors will walk around The Point, accompanied by live music. For more information, contact Nata Dreijer (073 619 1733).
