MOSSEL BAY NEWS - During the past year, numerous discussions were had and negotiations undertaken between organs of state, environmentalists, the SPCA and pro-geese representatives from the Great Brak community to address the issues regarding domestic geese within the Great Brak River estuary.
Following these discussions, it was agreed that the geese would be relocated for their safety and welfare, as well as to improve the estuarine environment.
During a meeting held earlier this year, it was confirmed that the geese will be taken in by a landowner adjacent to the estuary.
Due to unforeseen circumstances, the landowner could not proceed with implementing the relocation. However, during the latest meeting of the Great Brak Estuary Advisory Forum, it was confirmed that another resident was willing to take ownership and provide the gees with a safe home, where the necessary care and attention to them would be given.
The capture will be attended by the Garden Route SPCA and all precautions will be taken to ensure the geese’s welfare. The SPCA will also inspect the relocation premises to ensure that it is suitable for its intended purpose as the geese’s new home. - Mossel Bay Municipality
