MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Sean Grassow, from Mossel Bay, who had been working in Abu Dhabi, passed away due to a brain tumour on 10 August last year.
The international company for which he worked, Frank's International, has since honoured him by naming a training rig after him.
Frank's is a global oil services company.
During the memorial service for Sean last year, the vice president of Frank's, Gavin Olney, commended Sean highly. He said Sean had made a hugely positive impact by bringing in many contracts for the company, which helped the company to escalate its income.
Olney also mentioned how much respect Sean had had for his co-workers and that he would never expect them to do anything he would not be able to do himself.
For that reason the company decided to honour Sean. The Sean Grassow Rig now stands towering in Abu Dhabi for all to see.
Sean's mother, Lorraine, said: "We received photos on the first anniversary of Sean's passing, as Frank's had promised us. They very much wanted his wife, Casandra, and us parents to attend the official naming ceremony but sadly, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, that was not possible.
"Not only is this a huge honour for Sean but for his family as well. We are extremely proud of the legacy Sean left behind and what he accomplished in his life.
"Once again a huge thank you to Gavin Olney, Keith Stenhouse and all the directors and personnel of Frank's International, for naming their training rig after our son, father of two children, Brent and Erin, husband and brother."
The late Sean Grassow.
The memory of Sean Grassow lives on. This training rig was named after him.
