MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The KwaNonqaba Police Station in Mossel Bay bade farewell to Captain Kobus Wolmarans in the lapa of the Mossel Bay Correctional Centre on Tuesday 30 September.
Wolmarans, who is retiring, dedicated 40 years to the SAPS after joining in 1985.
Wolmarans told Mossel Bay Advertiser that although he is excited to spend more time with his family, he is also a bit sad. "It's one door closing, but another one opening," he said.
His colleagues at the station as well as the Garden Route District Commissioner, Major General Phumzile Cetyana, expressed their gratitude for his decades of service, compassion and guidance within the SAPS, and shared their well wishes for the future.
"The community of KwaNonqaba will miss you," said Cetyana.
The day took an emotional turn when Wolmarans gave a small speech of his own, saying that throughout the years, he had received a lot from the SAPS, but especially lifelong friends.

The KwaNonqaba Police Station's spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp, said Wolmarans had been the head of the station's visible policing unit for the past 20 years.
"He was a dedicated and disciplined officer who led by example. He had an open-door policy with the community and with the other officers. He was an excellent commander who was always there to motivate his colleagues."

The KwaNonqaba Police Station's commander, Lieutenant Colonel Virgie Julius, likened Wolmarans' retirement to a library filled with invaluable knowledge closing its doors, to which Wolarans replied that he would be checking in from time to time, and that the officers at the station are extremely competent.
