MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay fitness fanatic Teresa Lombard (49) recently qualified to compete in the Puma x Hyrox World Championships taking place in Stockholm, Sweden, from 18 to 21 June.
She competed in a Hyrox Johannesburg event on 29 November, completing the pro division race in a time of 1:21:04. Her success led to her qualifying for the upcoming championships, filling the only place available in the women's age category of 45-49 years.
"I'm super excited. It's everything I wanted to do! I think it's a huge privilege to be able to qualify for that and reach all my goals and expectations," she said.
Lombard told Mossel Bay Advertiser the competition was quite challenging due to Johannesburg's high altitude, which made it more difficult on her lungs, but that she is still happy with her performance seeing as she has now only competed in two Hyrox races thus far, both of which she won.
She had previously competed in another Hyrox Cape Town event in July alongside fellow Mossel Bay athlete Pieter du Plessis (39). Lombard finished the open division race with an impressive time of 1:11:49, while Du Plessis placed third in his age group (35-39) and was the 10th man overall.

That was the first Hyrox competition Lombard and Du Plessis had competed in, and was the third to be held in South Africa.
Lombard told the Advertiser at the time that placing first in her age group and as the fifth woman overall came as a shock, but it was something of which she was undoubtedly proud.
According to hyrox.com, the Hyrox is a fitness racing event held in expansive indoor venues and combines running and functional workouts.
The race format is the same across the world: a 1km run, followed by one functional workout station, repeated eight times.
