MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 36-year-old man from Mossel Bay is scheduled to appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrates’ court tomorrow, 10 September for a formal bail application after he was arrested last week on multiple charges of sexual assault and the possession of child pornography that was found on his cellphone.
Da Gamaskop police were called to attend to a complaint of indecent exposure at a facility in Mossel Bay that cares for elderly Dementia and Alzheimer sufferers on Monday, 31 August.
Upon initial investigation, it came to light that an employee, (the suspect) exposed himself to an elderly, 79-year-old complainant who is confined to a bed. The alleged incident happened in the early hours of 29 August, 2020.
Whilst conducting further investigations, the members discovered footage (all rooms are equipped with CCTV cameras) that indicates that another lady, aged 96 has been sexually violated.
Subsequent to the discovery, the suspect was arrested and his cellphone was confiscated. When checking his phone, investigators found child pornography on it. The phone was sent for forensic analysis.
Police spokesperson, Captain Malcolm Pojie says the suspect was charged with multiple counts, including rape, sexual exposure and the possession of child pornography.
He made a first brief court appearance last Wednesday, 2 September when he was remanded and the case postponed to tomorrow, Thursday, 10 September, for a formal bail application.
“Western Cape Police’s Provincial Management has condemned these acts against the most vulnerable assets of society, our mothers, in the strongest terms possible, especially on the periphery of a month in which we celebrated and commemorated our women,” Pojie says.
