MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Police confiscated drugs with an estimated street value of R800 000 and arrested a 52-year-old man along the N2 highway outside Mossel Bay on Friday, 30 April at about 21:30.
Police spokesperson Sgt Chris Spies says police received a tipoff about a vehicle which was enroute from Cape Town with a consignment of drugs.
"This information was operationalised with the strategic deployment of members attached to the Mossel Bay police on the highway. They later stopped a Ford Figo near a petrol filling station."
A searched of the vehicle ensued and the members found heroin stashed in the glove compartment and a bag with Tik hidden in the boot. The police confiscated 1,63 kilogram of heroin and 1.18 kilogram of Tik. They also seized the motor vehicle.
The suspect is facing a charge of possession of drugs. He will appear in court once charged.
Preliminary investigation indicates that the drugs were destined for delivery in Mossel Bay.
Acting Provincial Commissioner of the Western Cape, Major General Thembisile Patekile, praised the members for their vigilance in responding to the information which subsequently led to the confiscation of the consignment of drugs.
