MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 65-year-old man, who had allegedly been driving under the influence of alcohol, was arrested on Saturday 2 August, after he had allegedly hit an eight-year-old boy and then drove into the wall of a building on the corner of Cedile and Mateza streets at about 16:00 that afternoon.
The KwaNonqaba Police Station’s spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp, said the man was arrested on charges of reckless and negligent driving and driving under the influence of alcohol.
He said the eight-year-old was rushed to hospital in a serious condition, having suffered a dislocated knee. He was later discharged and is currently at home.
The driver has since been released from police custody and will appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrate’s Court once all the blood results have returned from the police laboratories.
In the early hours of Sunday 3 August, first a 32-year-old man was arrested in the KwaNonqaba area at 01:30 and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol, and then a second man, a 42-year-old, in a separate incident at about 02:30. Their court appearances are pending the outcome of some blood tests.
