MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The KwaNonqaba Police Station’s management have urged residents to work together towards a safer community as the holiday season approaches, starting with responsible drinking.
The management said responsible drinking can save lives, and that alcohol abuse not only has the capacity to destroy families, but that it also fuels violence, endangering lives.
“As members of our community, we all have a duty to drink responsibly and protect one another. Know the law and know your limits,” said the station’s spokesperson, Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp.
“Do not drink and drive. Do not supply alcohol to minors.”
Public disorder, which is often a result of someone being under the influence, is also a criminal offence.
“Excessive drinking often leads to crime, domestic violence and road fatalities,” Kapp said.
Responsible drinking means knowing your limits, drinking in moderation, eating before consuming alcohol, and regularly drinking water between your alcoholic beverages.
“Never get behind the wheel after drinking. Look out for your friends as well, and don’t let them drink and drive. Together, we can make a difference,” said Kapp.
If you or someone you know needs help with alcohol abuse, contact Crime Stop on 08600 10111 or the emergency line on 10111. You can also call your local CPF on 084 911 7379.
“Be smart, be safe and be responsible. Your choices today shape a safer tomorrow,” said Kapp.
