MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Make a Mossel Bay child's Christmas a little brighter this year by giving the gift of joy through the Mossel Bay Care Centre's annual Christmas Shoebox initiative.
With more than 300 children set to receive Christmas gifts, the centre appeals to the community to help ensure no child is left without a present this festive season. The centre still needs 112 gifts to reach its target.
This non-profit organisation, based in Power Town, Little Brak River, runs this initiative every year, distributing shoeboxes filled with gifts to learners at Ridgeview Primary School and the children living in Power Town.
Jenny Bunyan, one of the centre's founders, said there are two ways to support the initiative. Contact her to request the name and age of a child and then purchase gifts for them, or donate R250 to the centre, which will buy the gifts on your behalf.
The presents are handed out at a Christmas party organised for the children, where they also receive lunch and a soft drink, Bunyan said. All gifts should be delivered to the centre by the end of November.
The care centre was founded 18 years ago by Bunyan and Delene Berry. Its almost 12-year-old aftercare programme provides a safe space where the children from Power Town can complete their homework, use the centre's computers, printer and Wi-Fi, and enjoy some playtime with their friends.
The centre also provides a meal to the children every day.
