MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Last Tuesday, 20 August, Mossel Bay Fire, Rescue and Disaster Management Services attended an unusual call-out: a cat stuck on top of an electricity pole.
The Garden Route SPCA Mossel Bay branch posted on its Facebook page about the incident in New Sunnyside, near Tarka in Mossel Bay, and thanked the Fire Department for responding to the call-out.
The SPCA posted that it was a challenging situation and that the department responded swiftly, even after hours.
"They are always ready to assist us, no matter the time. Their dedication ensured a safe rescue and a member of the Fire Department even went the extra mile by giving the rescued cat some much-needed water," read the post.
"We are so grateful for your unwavering support and commitment to our community and its animals. Thank you for always being there when it matters most."
SPCA Mossel Bay branch manager Elize Goosen told Mossel Bay Advertiser that a firefighter had safely reached the cat and was coming down from the pole when the cat jumped from his arms before they reached the ground.
Goosen said the SPCA assumed the cat was running back home.
Mossel Bay Municipality says the Fire Department is always keen to assist and happy to have been of service. It said the firefighters involved accept the gratitude with thanks.
