HARTENBOS NEWS - The condition of Bongi Mthembu (17), rescued from the surf at Hartenbos on Saturday, is improving.
Neil Hurford, a member of the governing body of Bongi's school, Schweizer-Reneke High, told Mossel Bay Advertiser this morning that Bongi had been transferred from Life Bay View Private Hospital to George Provincial Hospital late yesterday afternoon, "for logistical reasons".
He is in intensive care in George.
Bongi was looking better and had opened his eyes before being transferred, Hurford said.
Bongi was in Mossel Bay to play rugby and was swimming at Hartenbos Beach with fellow schoolmates when he got into difficulty in the sea.
Hurford thanked the Mossel Bay community for its concern and prayers for Bongi.
At visiting time at about 20:00 last night at George Hospital, Bongi's condition was stable, but critical, Hurford said.
The boy's condition had definitely showed an improvement, Hurford said. He is in contact with Bongi's family.
