MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Local actor Andre Mouton, who made it to the top 6 on Plaasjapie, before he was eliminated from the show, said he was pleased with how far he went on the series, and satisfied with how he remained true to himself.
Andre is signed with Mossel Bay agent for actors, Frieda van der Walt, although he secured his spot on Plaasjapie himself, through his own efforts, out of hundreds who tried to make it on to the reality series.
Andre works as a grader operator for the Garden Route District Municipality. He lives in Pacaltsorp, George.
He was eliminated on the programme on TV channel, kykNET, on Thursday night, 27 June.
Complaints
There were some complaints on Facebook sites about the way he was eliminated, because none of the contestants on the show voted him out.
Other contestants were voted out, even by two votes, but they used their "immunity idols" to rescue themselves. Andre had already used his "immunity idol" before, so did not have an idol to use.
The judges decided he should leave the show despite no one voting him off. Plaasjapie is a reality series filmed on two farms, based on the popular Survivor TV series model.
Viewers and fans
Some Plaasjapie viewers and fans of Andre said it was unfair that he had to leave the show because no one voted for him to leave.
But Andre told Mossel Bay Advertiser: "That was several months ago now. The filming ended last October. I am not worried about it.
"As a Christian one sees things differently," he said. He said he felt he remained true to himself on the show.
He is proud that he made it to the top six out of 16 contestants and that he was only eliminated near the end of the series, in the 11th episode.
What he learnt
Speaking about what he learnt from Plaasjapie, Andre said: "It strengthened my character. I think I got in touch with the emotional side of myself more. I wasn't a guy who went out and met strangers and was talkative before. It shows you can do something out of the ordinary."
In his exit interview on Plaasjapie, Andre said he had learnt that he should not suppress his emotions and that he should tell his family members he loves them. He needs to verbalise it.
Strategy
Van der Walt, who owns Gemini Model and Talent agency, said: "As his agent, I am so proud of him. His strategy was excellent. I told him that. He worked hard, but he also used clever strategy. It was sad that he was eliminated, because it was right near the end.
“He could have been a finalist. He is an outstanding actor. I am proud to have him in my agency." Andre works as a grader operator for the Garden Route District Municipality. He lives in Pacaltsorp, George.
