MOSSEL BAY NEWS - While Heritage Day has come and gone, two Mossel Bay locals recently reflected on what this day will mean to them for years to come.
After over a decade of promoting local creatives and up-and-coming entrepreneurs, and the upliftment of their community, Walter Blaq and Mof Cando experienced a full-circle moment when they recently performed on a national stage with President Cyril Ramaphosa in the audience.
In 2016, Blaq, then rapper, now videographer, and photographer Kizzle Shot-it, rapper Gavin Jay and the late Kazz Matshini performed in Mossel Bay for Heritage Day.
Ten years later, Blaq, the founder of Black Sheep Network, and well-known musician Mof Cando performed in Oudtshoorn for its Heritage Day celebrations.
Blaq said out of all nine provinces, he was thankful a town in the Garden Route was chosen to host the event and that it included local artists.

“The Black Sheep Network has always believed that we don’t have to go to these big cities to be recognised ... they will come to us,” he said.
Through the Black Sheep Network, Blaq has worked tirelessly to uplift his community and showcase the talent and skills of the people in Mossel Bay.
He said it was definitely a full-circle moment, going from a small stage in Mossel Bay 10 years ago to seeing Mof Cando perform his latest single, “Pressure”, for the president, the Department of Sports, Arts and Culture’s minister, Gayton McKenzie, and the minister of defence and military veterans, Angie Motshekga.
Blaq thanked the members of Mossel Bay Creative Culture’s Association (Mocca) for their guidance, saying they might not have made these moves had it not been for them.
