MOSSEL BAY NEWS - KwaNonqaba Police recorded the most murders in the Mossel Bay area from January to June this year.
There were 14 murders. This is according to national crime statistics released by the police. There were eight murders from January to March and six murders during the period, April to June.
Statistics for July and August have not been released yet. The police provide statistics on a quarterly basis.
In comparison, from January to June this year, Da Gamaskop Police Station recorded three murders, while both Mossel Bay and Great Brak River police stations recorded zero murders.
In the most recent murder in KwaNonqaba, a man was shot multiple times and died of his wounds on Saturday night, 31 August.
In this shooting incident at the Tau Lifestyle Café, on the corner of Mzathi and Crotz streets, three other people were injured.
The shooting at the café took place at about 23:00, when the venue was reportedly filled with people.
KwaNonqaba Police Station spokesperson Warrant Officer Kappie Kapp said a 25-year-old man, Xolani Sizani, died of multiple gunshot wounds. He was declared dead at the scene by emergency medical services.
Kapp said the three men who sustained gunshot wounds were rushed to Mossel Bay Provincial Hospital in a serious condition. Two of them were later transferred to George Provincial Hospital, Kapp said.
A 43-year-old man was arrested in connection with the incident and appeared in the Mossel Bay Magistrate's Court on Tuesday, 3 September.
He was released from police custody pending further investigation. Kapp says a case of murder and three cases of attempted murder are being investigated.
Attempts to contact a representative of Tau Lifestyle Café through phone calls, text messages, a WhatsApp message and a visit to the premises were unsuccessful by the time of publishing.
