MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Rotary Club of George on 22 January, a day after the devastating fire in Hartenbos Heuwels, paid homage to Garden Route SPCA employees for their selfless service during the fires that ravaged parts of George in October last year.
Mossel Bay SPCA inspector Mariska Jacobs was awarded a certificate for her hard and heroic work when she singularly assisted the communities of Vermaaklikheid, in Riversdale and the Garcia Pass in rescuing their pets and animals.
On day two of her work in this area she had to requisition a second vehicle as the one she used had no more space for another rescue animal. She also had to make her way to George and later Rheenendal and eventually Beervlei at Wilderness to assist residents with their pets and with other animals in need of care.
The Mossel Bay SPCA branch is a satellite office of the Garden Route SPCA.
The certificate she received - The Service Above Self Award - commends her for her devoted and unselfish service to the community and its animals during the George fires in October 2018.
