MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A R1 000 reward is offered for the return of an irreplaceable ring, which has fine lines etched in it.
Michelle Utian lost the ring on 9 October in Plettenberg Bay and it is believed to be in the Mossel Bay area.
She was attending to a wedding at Barrington's, a hotel in Plettenberg Bay, when she disposed of paper products in a dustbin containing tissues, paper towels and other paper products. She was busy attending to the wedding arrangements and only noticed later that the ring was missing. According to Utian the hotel's paper products are collected and transported to Mossel Bay. From information received by the Mossel Bay Advertiser, rubbish in the Plettenberg Bay and Knysna area is sorted there, locally, and the rest of the rubbish is sent to the Gourikwa landfill near PetroSA.
The story behind the ring is that when the Utians' daughter was six months old, 10 months after her husband left her with nothing, Michelle attended a women's church conference in September 1999.
The preacher, who did not know her, called her to the front, saying that God wanted her to give Michelle a ring as a reminder that He would care for her as a husband would and for her daughter as a father, until He provided someone who would love her and take her child as his own.
"Although I wasn't quite sure what to make of it all, I found verses in Isaiah 54 and Psalm 69 that together read something along the lines of: 'For your Maker will be your husband/provider and a father to the fatherless,'" Michelle said.
For her it was a life changing moment, especially when the lady put the ring on her finger and it fitted perfectly. "Many people cried that day; it was profound," Michelle said. Years later she heard that this preacher, a pastor's wife, had been ministered to an old woman on her deathbed. The woman had given her the ring, saying that it wasn't for her and that one day God would show her who He wanted to give it to as the rightful owner.
If anybody finds the ring, please call or message Michelle (082 740 9149).
