According to the project coordinator, Mavea du Plessis, 250 boxes will be handed out this year, targeting three registered schools and also a few other centres that meet the criteria.
This week, some 86 little ones in the care of Magdalene Steenkamp, principal of the Civic Park crèche for the past 14 years, were wide-eyed with wonder when Mavea and volunteer Deidre Swanepoel handed out the beautifully decorated shoeboxes filled with toiletries, toys and other goodies.
Niklaas Booisen, proportional councillor for Ward 2 and chairperson of the crèche's management committee, lent a hand during the distribution of the shoeboxes and expressed his sincerest thanks towards everyone who contributed to this cause. And the little ones echoed his gratitude as they chorused: "Baie, baie dankie, Santa Shoebox!"
