MOSSEL BAY NEWS - The Mossel Bay Municipality on Tuesday, 11 October following a call to action for residents to attend the scheduled open days for asbestos removal, safely discarded of the first load of this dangerous material. It is illegal to dump asbestos in municipal landfills.
Only registered service providers are allowed to discard of asbestos in the prescribed manner.
Following the announcement of the municipality's open days on social and print media last week, the first load was collected at a residential property in Little Brak River today by the municipality's accredited service provider.
The Mossel Bay Municipality is leading the way by being the first to offer this service to residents. This is a paid service, offered at R250 (approximately a wheelbarrow load); R500 (approximately a bakkie load); R1000 (approximately a trailer load). In general, service providers charge per kilogram, which becomes very costly to members of the public.
