MOSSEL BAY NEWS - Mossel Bay Municipality's water and waste water treatment are officially ranked among the best in the Western Cape.
Recently officials attended a prestigious event at the Water Institution of Southern Africa (Western Cape) and the Department of Water and Sanitation's eighth Process Controller Workshop at the Bitou Municipality, where the Mossel Bay Municipal water and waste water treatment plants and various staff employed within the Water and Sanitation Department received awards and recognition for excellent performance.
The following awards were handed to the Mossel Bay team:
Top performing Waste Water Treatment Plants
- The Pinnacle Point Waste Water Treatment Works received recognition for excellent treatment, operation and management practices for treatment works less than the 5ML/day design category.
- The Brandwag Waste Water Treatment Works (Best Waste Water) received an award for excellent treatment, operation and management practices at a waste water pond system.
Top performing Water Treatment Plant
- The Klein Brak Water Treatment Works received the award for the first runner-up in recognition of commendable treatment, operation and management practices at a water treatment works with a design capacity greater than 10ML/day.
Best Internal Municipal Laboratory
- The municipal laboratory at Hartenbos received an award for the second runner-up in recognition of commendable internal laboratory facilities, management and quality control practices and analysis credibility.

Best Process Controllers
The following process controllers were acknowledged for excellent performance:
- Jeffrey Links - Klein Brak Water Treatment Works (first runner-up for water treatment works greater than 10ml/day).
- Danver Draai - Friemersheim Water Treatment Works (best process controller for water treatment works less than 10ML/day).
- Nolusindiso Fumile received acknowledgement for commendable contribution as a process controller at a waste water treatment works.
At a ceremony to congratulate the department and the individuals involved, the executive mayor, Alderman Harry Levendal commended director Dick Naidoo on his leadership of a team that does the municipality proud.
Best Practice
Mossel Bay Municipality was recognised for commendable compliance with water use authorisation conditions and measures taken towards best practice.
