MOSSEL BAY NEWS AND VIDEO - An official memorial service for struggle icon Winnie Madikizela-Mandela is taking place in the Mossel Bay Town Hall this afternoon (Friday 13 April).
"Today is a celebration for all women not recognised in a male-dominated world," said executive mayor Harry Levendal.
"We celebrate today not only the life of the mother of the nation, Winnie Madikzela-Mandela, but the lives of all women.
"Winnie was born from parents who were missionaries, a home that prepared her for a life in service of her people."
He said South Africa celebrates Mandela Day annually, not thinking much about the role of the soulmate and wife - the 'omgee-mens' that Winnie Madikizela-Mandela was.
