MOSSEL BAY NEWS - A 26-year-old man was sentenced to an effective 10 years' imprisonment in the Mossel Bay Regional Court yesterday, Thursday 8 July, for raping a woman in 2016.
The sentence relates to an incident in Mossel Bay in December that year, when the victim, who is now 36, was walking to her house.
The rapist grabbed her and threw her over the fence of a house that was still being built. He raped her inside the house before fleeing the scene.
It took the investigating officer, Sergeant Mantshadi Mofokeng, five years to help bring justice to the victim because of a delay in the DNA test results.
The suspect pleaded not guilty on the charge but was found guilty after the DNA results came back positive.
