MOSSEL BAY NEWS - An imbizo will be held tomorrow in memory of Asla Park residents, Yanga Mayambela (32) and Mthura Khalani (30) who were killed on Sunday morning by Yanga’s boyfriend (28).
Yanga and the suspect were involved in an argument in Kanonkop Street in Asla Park in the early hours of the morning.
A preliminary investigation suggests that he stabbed her with a sharp object.
Mthura, was a friend of the suspect, and allegedly tried to intervene when he was also stabbed in the heart.
Emergency teams declared Mthura dead on the scene and Yanga died of her injuries later the same morning in a Mossel Bay hospital.
The suspect has handed himself over to the KwaNonqaba police and will appear in the Mossel Bay Magistrates Court today on two counts of murder.
Meanwhile, community activist, Blessing Fasi, has arranged an imbizo for Yanga and Mthura at the Garden Route Primary School stadium, tomorrow at 17:00. Residents are asked to wear black and to bring a candle to the gathering.
“Mthura was a hero, who died, trying to safe a woman. We, the young people of KwaNonqaba need to put a stop to this, where women are victims of gender based violence in our community. We will discuss a way forward at the imbizo. This is a pandemic.”
