MOSSEL BAY NEWS & VIDEO - Tomorrow, Saturday 4 November, is national Children's Day.
Last week it was announced that it is now illegal for parents to smack their children at home.
We spoke to Mossel Bay residents about children's rights.
Watch a video below.
SHAAZIA MOHIDIEN: "Children can get out of control; a child needs boundaries. Don't abuse them, but a good hiding from parents now and then will put them on the right path."
RICUS SERFONTEIN: "The message to the younger generation on Children's Day should be 'talk, talk, talk'. If someone abuses you, talk about it. Tell someone. Don't be scared of the abuser or of what people will say. Physical and sexual abuse is bad, but a good hiding, a spanking, from a parent is necessary sometimes. There is nothing wrong with it."
DELMARIE DE JAGER: "I think it would be good if there were talks on Children's Day, teaching young people to have respect for their elders. These days they don't even call their parents 'mom' and 'dad'. They call them by their first names."
