Update
MOSSEL BAY NEWS - According to a press statement from PetroSA, a fire erupted at one of the petrol units (alkylation unit) at the Mossel Bay refinery on Friday morning, 16 March at approximately 03:00.
Spokesperson Tumoetsile Mogamisi said three employees sustained injuries during efforts to extinguish the fire.
They were treated on site at the refinery's on site clinic, whereafter one person was referred to a local hospial for further treatment.
"The emergency response team remains activated, although the plant remains operational with the necessary measures in place to ensure the safety of all employees," Mogamisi said.
Mossel Bay Municipality's Fire and Disaster Management's firefighting crews assisted PetroSA to extinguish the fire and were still busy with exposure protection on Saturday. The fire has since been brought under control.
