GARDEN ROUTE NEWS - Five men who are facing murder charges following the murder of 63-year-old Springs resident, Heila Kilian, on a farm outside Still Bay farm in April last year, will make their first court appearance in the Mossel Bay circuit High Court on Monday, 17 February.
Kilian was shot dead by five armed suspects wearing balaclavas and orange overall-type trousers while attending a braai on a farm 2km from Still Bay.
The horrific killing shocked South Africans and also made headlines in the British press.
Kilian, a mother of four, was visiting her sister, Brenda and her husband, David, whom she had last seen a year before.
The five men attacked Kilian and her friend and Brenda and David. One of them opened fire without saying a word.
Kilian was shot through the heart. The others were tied up, knifed and beaten during an ordeal that lasted up to two hours. The suspects fled in David's bakkie with money from the safe, firearms and hunting knives. David is a retired British engineer and originally came from London.
The suspects‚ aged 24‚ 25‚ 26 and 40 respectively, were arrested in Cape Town shortly after the murder. They will appear in court on charges of murder, robbery with aggravating circumstances, the unlawful possession of a firearm and the unlawful possession of ammunition.
