SPORT NEWS - This year, from 8 September to 22 October, sport enthusiasts can enjoy all the action at the annual Mossel Bay Sport and Recreation Festival.
The festival was established by the Mossel Bay Municipality to stimulate the local economy and promote social regeneration through advocating a healthy lifestyle.
Mayoral Golf Day
The opening event of the festival is the Mayoral Golf Day.
Now in its fifth year, this event is held to raise funds for Mayoral Fund.
The fund addresses needs in the community otherwise not budgeted for, such as supporting young sports talent.
The golf day will be held at the Mossel Bay Golf Club.
Members of the public who do not play golf can also support this worthy cause by participating in the ball drop competition.
Purchase a numbered golf ball for R100 and if your ball lands closest to the hole during the helicopter drop, you can win
R2 500, but the more balls sold, the higher the prize money. Contact Ronell du Toit today to buy your ball (rdutoit@mosselbay.gov.za or 044 606 5095).
Win with touchies
If you want to score, make sure you get your team together for the 10th Touchies Tournament hosted during the Sport and Recreation Festival.
This year the tournament is proudly sponsored by Mossel Bay Tourism and Hydrolyte Ultra Sports Drink. The tournament takes place on 15 September at the D`Almeida Stadium, starting at 18:00.
The prize money is R22 500.00 in total. It is divided as follows between the top six teams:
1st place: R5 000-00, 2nd place: R4 500-00, 3rd place: R4 000-00, 4th place: R3 500-00, 5th place: R3 000-00 6th place: R2 500-00.

Athletics galore
There are many athletics events to support, from fun runs to trail running, to schools' athletics and national competitions.
For the less competitive, the MossMarch, attracting many entries, may just be the ticket.
The full event calendar is available from today, 25 August, on the municipal website, www.mosselbay.gov.za, under news.
Links to the calendar will also be provided on the municipal Facebook page (www.facebook.com/mosselbaymun), with regular event updates as the festival progresses.
